Yes. Lightly sand the surface with 220-grit paper, wipe clean, and apply a spray paint formulated for plastic (Rust-Oleum Universal or Krylon Fusion). No primer needed — two light coats bond permanently.

For standard beds, just tamp down any loose soil and push the spikes in. If the ground is compacted, loosen it with a hand trowel along the line first. For hardpan or rocky soil, pre-drill a pilot hole with a 1/4-inch bit or rebar — the spike will slide right in.
